Feng Shui or Feng Shui Fail? What Happens When Energy Goes Haywire
Picture this: You and a friend enter a space expecting that space to feel peaceful, and harmonious, like a sanctuary. You enter the property that has 35 wind chimes hanging throughout the property and on each outside corner of the home. When you enter the home you notice a beautiful large a crystal chandelier sparkling overhead in the dining room. Your senses are on overload. The energy is pushing at you, instead of nurturing you while your friend is buzzing with energetic joy.
What went wrong? What’s the deal with Feng Shui, and why can the best intentions sometimes lead to total chaos in your living space?
In this post, we’ll dive into the ancient art of Feng Shui, explore why an overload of wind chimes and one massive chandelier might send your energy spiraling, and discuss how the balance of elements, coupled with your intuition, can either enhance or disrupt the flow of your home.
The Power of Feng Shui: Aligning with the Energy Around You
Feng Shui is more than just a method of placing furniture and décor, it’s an ancient Chinese practice aimed at optimizing the flow of energy, or chi, within a space. When your environment is balanced, Feng Shui is believed to bring prosperity, health, and happiness by aligning with the natural forces around you.
But here’s the thing: Feng Shui isn’t a one-size-fits-all formula. It’s not just about creating “feng shui-perfect” spaces according to strict rules; it’s about cultivating harmony, balance, and alignment with the unique energies of your environment. Feng Shui is as much about intention and energy as it is about physical placement. This is where intuition steps in: What works for one person may not work for another, and your intuitive sense of balance is key to transforming your space.
So what happens when your space gets overloaded with energy, when every item seems to be competing for attention? A beautiful space can quickly become an overwhelming one, and too many Feng Shui elements can lead to energy chaos instead of harmony. Let's explore how this can happen.
The Case of the 35 Wind Chimes: What Could Go Wrong?
Wind chimes are often associated with positive energy in Feng Shui. These simple tools are thought to promote good luck, balance chi, and break up stagnant energy. However, in excess, 35 wind chimes, they can quickly become an auditory and energetic nightmare.
Feng Shui isn’t about filling your space with as many good energy items as possible. Instead, it’s about balance. With too many wind chimes hanging around, the constant sound of jingling can disrupt the natural flow of energy. Imagine trying to focus, meditate, or sleep, all while the sounds of thirty-five wind chimes clink and clatter around you. Instead of relaxing, you’d feel distracted and agitated. Instead of creating peace, you’ve just invited sensory overload into your home.
Lillian Too, one of the foremost Feng Shui experts, teaches that the Five Elements, Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water, must be carefully balanced to optimize the flow of chi (life force). In the case of wind chimes, Too advocates for their sparing use as they represent the Metal element. Used in excess, they can become overpowering and disrupt the flow of energy. While it’s tempting to place them everywhere for “good energy,” too many wind chimes can lead to noise that distracts the mind and throws off your home’s balance.
In contrast, Denise Linn, a well-known expert in both Feng Shui and Native American spirituality, often emphasizes the power of the natural elements and how they can be harnessed to bring harmony to our spaces. In her work, including her books Sacred Space and The Secret of Shamanic Life, Linn speaks about using the elements to enhance the energy in your home, especially when it comes to creating a sacred space.
Regarding wind chimes in Feng Shui, Linn aligns with many traditional principles but also brings a unique perspective rooted in her Native American heritage. While she doesn't specifically advocate for placing wind chimes at every corner of your home, she does encourage the use of sound as a powerful tool for clearing and revitalizing stagnant energy.
Wind chimes, as an element of air and sound, are seen as tools that can activate chi. According to Linn's teachings:
Wind Chimes and the Four Directions: In Native American traditions, the four cardinal directions represent different elements (North, South, East, West) and their associated energies. Wind chimes can be used to activate and balance these energies, particularly in the southeast corner (which represents prosperity and abundance in the Bagua map of Feng Shui). However, their placement in all four corners could overwhelm the flow of energy unless carefully balanced.
Symbolism and Sound: In Linn’s approach, sound from wind chimes is a way to clear negative or stagnant energy from a space. The sound reverberates through the air and is thought to uplift the energy of a home, promoting movement and balance. When placed in the correct location, wind chimes can also enhance the element of air, which is key to creating a vibrant environment.
Sacred Spaces: As part of her broader philosophy on creating sacred spaces, Linn encourages the creation of an environment that speaks to your heart and soul. If you feel that wind chimes will contribute positively to the energy of your home and help you connect with nature, then using them in a way that feels natural and not overwhelming is important. Wind chimes can act as anchors to promote clarity, joy, and flow.
In short, Denise Linn supports the use of wind chimes for enhancing energy flow but advocates for an intuitive approach. Wind chimes placed thoughtfully at key areas of the home, especially to activate energy or clear blockages, can be powerful. However, their placement should not overwhelm the space or the occupants.
Crystal Chandeliers: When Sparkle Turns to Struggle
While sound can be a powerful force in Feng Shui, light also plays a critical role. Now, let’s explore how a prominent feature like a crystal chandelier can alter the energy in a space.
Enter the crystal chandelier, a symbol of luxury, light, and energy. Crystals are revered in Feng Shui for their ability to absorb and amplify energy. On paper, a crystal chandelier should be a beautiful way to uplift a space. But in excess or poor placement, it can have the opposite effect. If your chandelier is too large or placed in a dominant position, it can overwhelm the room’s energy and feel more like an oppressive force than a harmonious fixture.
Think of it this way: When a crystal chandelier is positioned above a bed or dining area, the energy radiating from the crystals may be too intense, creating a sense of discomfort rather than the peaceful energy you’d expect. You may feel a sense of pressure, almost as though the energy in the room is pushing down on you. Too much light, too much sparkle, it's like stepping into a bright, artificial world where the energy is too chaotic to relax in.
Linn’s teachings emphasize the importance of creating sacred, balanced spaces that foster positive energy. She is deeply connected to the idea that every object in your home has an energetic vibration and plays a role in either enhancing or depleting the flow of chi. While she may not directly address crystal chandeliers, we can draw upon some of her broader principles to understand how such items might fit into her philosophy:
1. The Power of Light and Crystals in Feng Shui:
Linn acknowledges the energetic properties of crystals in her work and teaches that crystals have their own vibrational energy. Crystals can bring clarity, focus, and positive energy into a space. When it comes to a crystal chandelier, it can certainly enhance the vibrancy and light in a room, especially if the crystals are placed in a way that promotes clarity and balance in the energy flow.
The use of crystals for positive energy and healing is well within the scope of Linn's teachings. She encourages incorporating natural elements like crystals, water, and plants to foster vitality in the home. Crystal chandeliers, with their beautiful, refractive light, can serve as both aesthetic and energetic enhancements in a room, radiating energy that uplifts and clears stagnant air.
2. Sacred Energy of Light:
Linn teaches that light is a key element in creating sacred spaces. The right lighting can elevate the energy of a space, making it feel expansive, bright, and welcoming. Crystal chandeliers, with their ability to scatter light in multiple directions, can enhance the atmosphere of a room by filling it with brightness and energy. However, balance is key, as too much light (or energy) can create overstimulation or agitation, which might disrupt the peace of a space.
3. Balance of Elements:
In the context of Feng Shui, crystals represent the earth element, and light represents fire. Both elements are powerful, but they need to be balanced in any given space. Crystal chandeliers, if not carefully balanced, might overwhelm a room with both their physical and energetic intensity, as they combine the bright, dynamic energy of light with the grounding, stabilizing effect of crystals.
Linn’s practice focuses on balance and intuition, so it’s important to listen to how the crystal chandelier affects the space and those within it. If it feels harmonious and uplifting, it is likely aligned with the principles of sacred space. However, if it feels overpowering or jarring, it might need to be adjusted or placed elsewhere to better suit the energy of the environment.
Feng Shui Gone Wild: How Too Much Energy Can Cause Chaos
So, what happens when you combine the overwhelming sound of 35 wind chimes with the a giant crystal chandelier? The result might be an energetic nightmare.
Instead of promoting peace, balance, and prosperity, you’ve inadvertently invited chaos into your space. Feng Shui experts often talk about energetic overwhelm, when too many elements in a room conflict or compete with one another, the energy gets blocked. In a room designed for relaxation, chaos reigns. You can feel the imbalance in your body: distracted, agitated, and uneasy.
Environmental psychology has proven that excessive sensory stimuli, whether from sound, light, or clutter, can make people feel more stressed and anxious. When your space is overloaded with energy, your mind can’t focus. Your nervous system is on high alert, and it becomes much harder to unwind or rejuvenate.
Ultimately, Feng Shui is all about finding balance. It’s about understanding what works for you, and creating a space that supports your individual energy flow, not overwhelming it with chaotic bursts of “good” energy.
The Role of Intuition in Feng Shui: Trust Your Gut
When it comes to Feng Shui, intuition is just as important as logic and design principles. No amount of expert advice or strict guidelines can replace your personal sense of what feels right in your space. Feng Shui isn’t about rigid rules, it’s about listening to your environment and your body’s response to it.
Do you feel at peace in space surrounded by lots of wind chimes? Or do you find yourself distracted by the constant tinkling? Does the crystal chandelier above you make you feel like you’re basking in positive energy, or does it create a subtle, uncomfortable weight?
Denise Lin, emphasizes the importance of connecting with the sacred space you inhabit. According to Lin, “The elements are not simply decorative, they hold energy that resonates with the Earth and our inner spirit. When we connect with these elements, we begin to understand the rhythm of the land and our own rhythm.” Lin speaks of sacred spaces as ones where intuition and elemental balance reign, and where you are deeply connected to the natural forces at play.
When creating your space, Lin advises tuning into the elements, earth, air, fire, water, and wood, and paying attention to how they resonate within you. Intuition plays a huge role in understanding the flow of energy in your environment. Some people thrive with vibrant, energetic spaces full of sound and sparkle, while others need quiet, grounded environments.
So, trust your instincts when arranging your home. If something doesn’t feel right, whether it’s too much light, too many objects, or too many sounds, listen to that inner voice. Your intuition knows best what works for you.
Conclusion: Feng Shui Success or Energy Overload?
Feng Shui is an art, not a science, and it’s rooted in the balance of elements, natural, energetic, and intuitive. If you're feeling overwhelmed by your space, trust your instincts. Is the space making you feel at home, or is it creating discomfort? Remember, what works for one person might not work for another. Intuition is the final piece of the puzzle in Feng Shui, guiding us to create spaces that truly nurture and support our well-being.

35 Wind Chimes, One Crystal Chandelier & Total Energy CHAOS? Feng Shui Gone Wild!
Featuring Katherine Troyer
Episode 3
The Truth About Intuition: Debunking 5 Myths & Unlocking Your Inner Wisdom
Intuition isn’t just a mystical power reserved for the spiritually elite, it’s a force within all of us, waiting to be unlocked. In our latest episode of Intuitive Living, I Dr. Sandra Marie, along with my co-host Katherine Troyer, dove deep into the five biggest myths about intuition, consciousness, and authenticity.
What we uncovered may shock you, inspire you, and transform the way you approach intuitive living
Myth #1: Intuition is a Special Gift That Only Certain People Have
Let’s get one thing straight, everyone has intuition. Yes, you. And no, you don’t have to be psychic, a guru, or a meditation master to access it
Science even backs this up! Research from the Max Planck Institute found that our brains make decisions up to 10 seconds before we are consciously aware of them. That’s intuition at work. The difference between those who use their intuition and those who don’t? Trust.
Intuition is like a muscle, if you don’t use it, it weakens. But when you nurture it, build a relationship with it, and listen to its subtle nudges, it grows stronger and becomes an undeniable force in your life. Ask yourself, when was the last time you trusted your gut and it was right?
Myth #2: Intuition is Always Loud and Obvious
We’d love to tell you that intuition comes through as a booming voice from the heavens or flashing neon signs. But the truth? It’s often a whisper. A nudge. A quiet knowing.
In this episode, Katherine and I talk about how intuition is usually subtle, so subtle that we often dismiss it. It doesn’t scream for attention. It’s the gentle pull, the feeling in your gut, the small voice that says, “this isn’t right” or “go for it.” But here’s the catch, if you ignore it long enough, it will get louder.
Ever had that experience where life keeps throwing red flags at you, but you ignore them? Until suddenly, something huge happens that forces you to wake up? Yeah. That’s intuition trying to get your attention.
Pro Tip: If you want to strengthen your intuition, start paying attention to the smallest nudges, before they turn into life-altering wake-up calls.
Myth #3: Following Your Intuition Guarantees an Easy Path
Wouldn’t that be nice? But let’s be real, trusting your intuition isn’t about choosing the easy road. It’s about choosing the right road. Katherine and I have both had moments where we followed our intuition and ended up in deeply uncomfortable situations. Why? Because growth is messy. Sometimes, intuition leads you straight into discomfort so you can evolve.
It’s not always about avoiding pain, it’s about alignment.
✨ Following your intuition might mean leaving a toxic job before you have a backup plan.
✨ It might mean ending a relationship that looks perfect on the surface.
✨ It might mean moving across the country because something inside you just knows.
Scary? Yes.
Worth it? Absolutely.
Myth #4: Intuition and Logic Can’t Coexist
This one is tricky. Because, let’s be honest, when intuition is leading the way, logic often takes a backseat. Intuition isn’t about step-by-step analysis. It’s about deep knowing. But does that mean logic has no place? Not at all.
Here’s the truth: Intuition is the spark. Logic is the structure that helps bring it to life.
Think of it this way:
Logic is the GPS that calculates the best route. Intuition is the inner compass that tells you where you actually need to go.
When you combine both, you create magic.
Next time you feel torn between logic and intuition, ask yourself: Can I use my intuition to guide me, while allowing logic to help execute the plan?
Myth #5: You Have to Be “Spiritual” to Be Intuitive
Let’s set the record straight, intuition is not reserved for the “spiritually enlightened.” In fact, it has nothing to do with religion, belief systems, or being “woo-woo.” Intuition is just a part of being human. It’s woven into your DNA.
Every business leader who makes a gut decision? That’s intuition.
Every artist who follows an unexplainable creative pull? That’s intuition.
Every artist who follows an unexplainable creative pull? That’s intuition.
You don’t have to be a yogi, a shaman, or a meditation guru to use it. You just have to listen.
Ask yourself: How can I start trusting my intuition in everyday life, without over complicating it?
The Real Secret to Unlocking Your Intuition
By now, you’re probably wondering, how do I start strengthening my intuition?
Here are 3 powerful ways to tap in
1. Get Quiet and Listen
Meditate, journal, or simply sit in silence, our intuition speaks in stillness.
Pay attention to how your body feels when making decisions, tension vs. ease is a huge clue
2. Trust the Small Nudges First
If you start with small, everyday decisions, it builds your confidence.
Try following a gut feeling about something minor, see where it leads.
3. Track Your Intuition in a Journal
Write down every time you had an intuitive hit, even if you ignored it.
Over time, you’ll see patterns emerge—and that’s your intuition speaking loud and clear.
Are You Ready to Trust Yourself?
We are stepping into a new era of consciousness, one where intuition and authenticity are the keys to transformation.

What Is Intuition and Why Does It Matter?
Science backs up what spiritual teachers have long known: intuition is real. Studies show that the brain can process information subconsciously before our conscious mind catches up. In fact, researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences found that decisions can be predicted up to 10 seconds before we consciously make them.
But intuition isn’t just about fast decision-making. It’s about tuning into a higher state of consciousness, a deep, unshakable knowing that transcends logic.
Imagine navigating life effortlessly, making decisions with clarity and confidence, and feeling aligned with your highest purpose. That’s the power of intuition, when embraced, it becomes a compass for life.
How Intuition Shaped Our New Monthly Series
Katherine and I didn’t just stumble upon the idea for Intuitive Living, it was an inspired, intuitive download. We’d been talking about doing something like this for over a year, but as with all things rooted in divine timing, the moment had to be right.
It wasn’t until recent conversations about telepathy, synchronicity, and consciousness that everything clicked. The universe practically handed us the blueprint! And in true intuitive fashion, everything effortlessly fell into place.
This experience is a testament to the magic of following intuitive nudges. When you stop resisting and start flowing, the universe aligns everything for you.
The Meaning Behind “Love Loud, Live Loud”
One of the most powerful takeaways from this episode is our new tagline: Love Loud, Live Loud. This phrase is more than just words, it’s a call to action for radical authenticity.
Inspired by astrologer Pam Gregory, this concept urges us to drown out the chaos of the world with love, truth, and unapologetic self-expression.
So, what does it truly mean to love loud and live loud?
It’s about living from a space of full authenticity.
It’s about loving boldly, without fear of judgment.
It’s about embracing your intuition and trusting your soul’s whispers.
Society has conditioned us to shrink ourselves, to fit in, to avoid standing out. But now, we are being called to break free.
Are you ready to listen?
Your Intuition Is Speaking. Are You Listening?
Most of us have experienced moments of deep knowing, but we often dismiss them. We over analyze, doubt ourselves, and let fear cloud our judgment.
Here’s a secret: Your intuition is never wrong.
Think about a time when you ignored your gut instinct. What happened? Chances are, you later regretted it. That’s because your intuition speaks in whispers, it doesn’t demand attention, but it’s always there.
Katherine shared how intuition saved her countless times before she even realized what was happening. From career shifts to personal relationships, it was her inner voice that steered her toward the right path, even when logic said otherwise.
So how can you strengthen your connection to conscious intuition?
3 Practical Ways to Strengthen Your Intuition
1. Get Quiet and Listen
Your intuition thrives in stillness. Meditation, breathwork, and quiet reflection create space for your higher consciousness to communicate.
Try this: Spend 5 minutes in silence each morning, simply noticing thoughts and sensations. Over time, you’ll start distinguishing between ego chatter and true intuitive insights.
2. Follow the Energy, Not the Fear
Your intuition feels expansive and light, fear feels constrictive. When making a decision, ask yourself: Does this feel expansive or restrictive?
Try this: Before making a decision, take a deep breath and feel into it. If it brings a sense of ease, it’s likely intuition guiding you. If it brings anxiety, it’s likely fear.
3. Trust the Signs and Synchronicities
The universe speaks through signs. Recurring numbers, songs, or "coincidences" are not random, they are intuitive nudges.
Try this: Keep an “intuition journal” to track moments of synchronicity. The more you notice, the stronger your connection becomes.
The Spiritual Meaning of Magenta: A Bridge Between Worlds
During the episode, I shared how the color magenta played a key role in designing the thumbnail for this series. Colors aren’t just visuals, they carry energy and meaning.
🔴 Red grounds us in earthly energy.
🔵 Violet connects us to higher consciousness.
💜 Magenta, the blend of both, serves as a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms.
This choice was not random, it was an intuitive decision, reinforcing the theme of alignment and connection.
What colors are calling to you right now? Your soul might be trying to tell you something!
The World Is Changing. Are You Ready to Lead with Intuition?
There’s no denying it: We are stepping into a new era of consciousness. The old ways of fear, control, and rigid structures no longer apply.
This is the time for authenticity. The time to listen to your intuition and step fully into your power.
What if you stopped doubting yourself?
What if you trusted that deep, inner knowing?
What if you finally embraced the magic that’s always been inside you?
Because when you do, everything changes.
